Cayce enemas –
Keeping clean from the inside out

Why enemas?

According to Edgar Cayce,
many serious diseases
– even strokes! -
begin in the colon,
and could be prevented
with regular colonic irrigations.

So why NOT enemas?

Together, the small and large intestines measure about 28 feet, so it’s easy to see why internal cleansing is crucial to health -- there are just too many places for poisons to hide along its many twists, turns, and crevices.

Edgar Cayce said that the best way to do this was a high colonic (another name for it), administered professionally. You can often find medical practitioners in the Yellow Pages who give them in their facilities. (Learn more about this in the A.R.E. database)

But this isn’t practical for most of us. That’s why Dr. Harold Reilly, who worked closely with the readings, advised people to take three-stage enemas once a month, as a normal regimen.

Enemas at home are an extremely low-cost method for health maintenance -- especially if you have recurring problems. I know that they have helped cure us of chronic colds, yearly flu, hemorrhoids, psoriasis, and even arthritis.

Cayce recommended them for many diseases – too many to name here. In his mind it was all about eliminations – get rid of blockages first, then heal the patient. (a tenet of Chinese medicine)

If you can’t do enemas yourself , maybe a family member can help. If not, and you can’t afford professional help, it’s a lot better than nothing to use products like psyllium fiber or others designed to scrape the walls of the intestines clean, provided they work for you. If that’s the case, you may want to check out our Cayce diet page, and also learn something about the pitfalls of conventionally raised foods.

  • An enema bag. You can buy them at any drug store, most chain stores, or online.

  • If you also suffer from piles, you may want to purchase a bulb or rectal syringe to help cure hemorrhoids.

  • Salt and bicarbonate of soda are available at the grocery. Sea salt is preferrable, but ordinary land salt is fine, as long as there are no additives in it like aluminum silicate. (Added Iodine is okay)...

  • Some of you may be wondering, When there are so many herbal preparations sold on the market for cleaning the colon, why plain salt and soda? The Cayce way puts powerful stress on alkalizing, and salt and soda are violently alkaline.
  • Alkathyme or Glycothymoline for three-stage enemas.

    1. Get the enema bag ready. Sterilize the nozzle or tube. Use Vaseline on the insert tube and rectum to prevent chafing.
    2. For a simple one-stage, fill the bag with 1 quart of lukewarm water and 1 teaspoon each of salt and soda.
    3. Lie on your left side, and insert the tube.
    4. Control the speed at which the water enters to prevent cramping. If you feel that you can’t hold the water, take deep breaths and close the valve until the intense feeling subsides. (More tips below)
    5. After the quart of water has entered, hold it as long as possible before expelling. There should be a lot of solids in the liquid that comes out. If not, repeat the procedure.

The THREE-STAGE: (The at-home equivalent of a professional high- colonic).

Stage One --Lying on your left side.

Follow the directions for 1-4 above.
    Stage Two -- Knee-chest position.

Get on all fours on the floor, and take a second quart of the same salt-and-soda mixture. After inserting, settle back onto your knees, keeping your back parallel to the ground, so the knees touch your chest. Hold this as long as you can before letting go...
Third stage – lying on your right side

Take a third quart of water and add one tablespoon of Glycothymoline (or AlkaThyme) instead of the salt and soda. It’s very good for cleaning the lining of the colon and entire intestinal system.

Lie on your right side, and insert. Try to get up and walk around before you expel the last stage.

Before enemas, or while resting between stages--

If your system is sluggish, and your body is taking too long to expel the different stages, there are several ways to speed things up by stimulating (and cleansing) the stomach.

  • Take a glass of water with a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda (unless you have concerns about blood pressure)

  • Take a half-cup of olive oil

  • Eat an orange or grapefruit, or sip on orange juice

  • Controlling the Flow

I find it’s easier to use the closing valve only at the beginning, to keep the water in the bag, and to let any trapped air out before you begin.

Once in position with tube inserted, open the valve, and control the flow by pinching the tube between the thumb and forefinger. This gives you greater control.

    Dealing with Blockages

  • Insert the tube further into the rectum when starting. If that doesn’t work, try backing it out slightly.

  • Increase pressure by adjusting the flow-rate faster.

  • Make the feces in the colon move aside by rolling foward onto the stomach (and back) to get the water flowing inside. Once you see the bag going down, stay in the recommended position until the bag is drained.

  • Accelerating the beneficial effects of three-stage enemas

  • Take an apple fast before an enema.

  • Follow this internal bath with castor oil packs over the abdomen to remove yet more poisons, and build strength.

  • Make sure to eat yogurt regularly, but especially after a colonic cleansing, which kills beneficial bacteria that the colon needs. This will restore them.

  • My variation on the Reilly regimen

Take a one-stage every week and a three-stage every three months. This could work better for sensitive systems, if they find it too exhausting.

  • Recurring stomach problems: indigestion, over-acidity, gas, acid reflux, or persistent heartburn
  • Itching nose
  • Irregular bowel movements
  • Severe constipation
  • Restlessness, irritability, inability to think clearly
  • Not sleeping well
  • Sinusitis
  • arthritis attack
  • Eye problems: persistent eyeache, weeping eyes, mucosity
  • Frequent headaches
  • Allergies
  • Sore throat

  • To me, one of the most intriguing things Cayce said was that strokes begin in the colon – a novel idea in his day, but now commonly accepted among alternative health practitioners.

Many people, especially when they get to middle age, develop leaky-gut syndrome. Bad diet and poor eliminations can make the colon walls thin, and small particles of feces begin to leak into the blood stream. This toxic debris circulates and builds up plaque on the artery walls, until one day it’s choked off and a stroke occurs.

It’s a dangerous situation, and taking enemas is an awfully easy way to help prevent some major diseases! It’s like changing the oil on your car – and you deserve better treatment than your car!

The healthcare cost-savings and long-term natural health benefits can’t be calculated -- how do you tell people about the colon cancer you avoided, and the half-million dollars saved? The best reaction you’ll get is a blank look…

But a premier self-health maxim is “Don’t wait till you get sick!” Cayce put it another way: “You won’t take the time to be well, but you will take the time to be sick!” It’s too true of most of us. Good luck – and here’s to your health!
